Guidelines for Awarding Travel Scholarships by the DGMS
The German Society for Mass Spectrometry (DGMS) awards travel scholarships to student members for participation in scientific conferences organized by the DGMS or in conferences in which the DGMS is involved.
By decision of the board, travel scholarships may also be granted for other conferences if the respective event is eligible of support according to the society’s statutes §2 par. 3.
Requirements
- An application for a travel scholarship to attend a scientific conference of the DGMS must be submitted in a timely manner exclusively through the DGMS online portal. The deadline for applications for attending the DGMS annual conference will be announced in the society’s member information and on the society’s homepage, at the latest, when registration for the conference opens.
- Applications for travel scholarships to other conferences supported by the DGMS are also submitted via the online portal.
- Applications for travel scholarship can only be submitted by DGMS members who are studying at a German or European university or university of applied sciences, or who are working on their master’s, diploma, or doctoral thesis there. Proof of student status must be provided.
- Travel scholarships are not awarded to members who already hold a PhD degree or members with permanent employment (lifetime positions) in the public sector or industry.
- Active participation of the student member in the conference is mandatory for awarding of a travel scholarship, i.e., presenting a scientific contribution (lecture or poster) related to mass spectrometry or assisting in the organization of the conference (conference center).
Co-authorship of a scientific contribution alone is not sufficient for the award of the scholarship.
- The documents to be submitted or the conditions for reimbursement are:
- Application for a travel scholarship (online application),
- Proof of student status (student ID or current confirmation of doctoral status from the doctoral committee),
- Declaration with signature confirming active scientific contribution at the end of the conference.
- The travel scholarship is paid as a lump sum, which may be scaled according to the distance to the conference location. The DGMS may also waive conference fees as part of the travel support.
- The travel scholarship will only be paid to the student member after the conference if all documents according to paragraph 6 have been submitted by the end of the conference.
- There is no legal claim to the awarding of a travel scholarship by the DGMS.
